Redesign Salla Home Screen

Redesigned the Home dashboard of the Salla Merchant app with a strong focus on usability, information hierarchy, and merchant productivity. By identifying UX pain points in the original interface and restructuring the experience, I created a cleaner, more actionable dashboard that helps merchants access key insights faster while reducing visual clutter and cognitive load.

Redesign Salla Home Screen

Project Overview

The Home screen is the most frequently visited page inside the Salla Merchant application. It acts as the merchant's command center where they monitor sales, orders, products, reports, and store performance. After studying the existing interface, I found several usability and hierarchy issues that negatively affected the user experience. The goal of this redesign was not to reinvent the product, but to enhance the existing experience while preserving user familiarity. My Role Product Designer (UI/UX Design) I independently handled the redesign process from problem analysis to the final high-fidelity prototype. Responsibilities included: UX Audit Heuristic Evaluation Information Architecture User Flow Optimization Visual Hierarchy Component Redesign Dashboard Strategy UI Design Design System consistency Prototype The Challenge The original dashboard contained valuable information but presented it in a way that required unnecessary effort to scan and understand. Merchants typically open this page several times a day to answer simple questions: How much did I sell today? Do I have new orders? Which orders need attention? Am I close to my monthly target? What should I do next? Unfortunately, these answers were hidden behind visual noise and weak hierarchy. UX Audit 1. Weak Visual Hierarchy Problem The dashboard displayed many sections with almost identical visual weight. The user couldn't immediately identify the most important information. Result: Everything looked equally important. Solution I introduced a clear hierarchy by organizing the page into priority levels. Level 1 Greeting Notifications Search Level 2 Critical business metrics Level 3 Quick actions Level 4 Orders Level 5 Goals Level 6 Community & Growth Now the eye naturally flows from top to bottom. 2. Empty Space Without Purpose Problem A large empty mint-colored area occupied almost one-third of the screen. It consumed valuable space while delivering almost no information. Solution I significantly reduced the header height and allowed business information to appear immediately. This increased information density without making the interface feel crowded. 3. Poor Information Density Problem Important metrics were scattered across multiple sections. Users needed to scroll before reaching actionable information. Solution I grouped the most important KPIs inside a single analytics card. Including: Revenue Orders Visitors Conversion Rate Comparison with yesterday This provides an immediate business overview. 4. Missing Business Context Problem The old design showed isolated numbers. Users had no indication whether performance improved or declined. Solution I added trend indicators. Examples: +18% +22% -0.4% This transforms raw numbers into meaningful insights. 5. No Clear Priority for Orders Problem Orders were hidden further down the page. Yet orders represent the merchant's highest priority task. Solution Recent Orders now appear immediately below Quick Actions. Each order displays: Customer name Order amount Status Order number Status color This enables merchants to act faster. 6. No Attention Management Problem The interface didn't immediately communicate urgent tasks. Solution I introduced a highlighted attention banner. Example: "3 Orders Need Your Attention" This creates proactive guidance instead of reactive browsing. 7. Weak Dashboard Strategy Problem The original page mixed navigation with reporting. Solution The redesign treats the Home screen as a business dashboard rather than a menu. Everything answers one question: "What does the merchant need right now?" 8. Weak Goal Motivation Problem Monthly goals existed but lacked motivation. Solution I redesigned the progress section with: Progress percentage Remaining amount Remaining days Visual progress bar This creates continuous motivation. 9. Better Navigation Quick Actions were redesigned into large touch-friendly cards. Customers Reports Products Orders These represent the four most frequent merchant tasks. 10. Cleaner Search Experience The search bar became more prominent and easier to discover. Since merchants often search for: Products Orders Customers Settings Search became a primary action rather than a secondary element. UI Improvements The redesign also improved visual quality. Better spacing Consistent padding Improved alignment Larger touch targets Better typography hierarchy Rounded cards Modern shadows Balanced whitespace Consistent iconography Better readability Improved accessibility Design Principles The redesign follows several UX principles: Progressive Disclosure Visual Hierarchy Recognition over Recall Hick's Law Fitts's Law Consistency Accessibility Action-first Dashboard Design Design System Improvements Created a reusable card system Unified spacing Unified icon sizes Unified button styles Consistent status colors Component-based layout Scalable dashboard architecture Impact Compared to the original dashboard, the redesign offers: Faster information scanning Clearer business insights Reduced cognitive load Better visual hierarchy Improved accessibility Easier order management More actionable analytics Better merchant productivity More modern visual language Why This Design Is Better The original interface focused primarily on presenting information. The redesigned interface focuses on helping merchants make decisions. Instead of forcing users to search for what matters, the interface surfaces the most important insights first, prioritizes actionable tasks, and organizes information according to the merchant's workflow. The result is a dashboard that feels lighter, faster to scan, and more supportive of day-to-day business operations. It transforms the Home screen from a collection of widgets into a true operational command center that helps merchants monitor performance, manage orders, and take action with minimal effort.
